JANUARY

30th January

London Focus Group

Talk by Maggie Ellenby - Artist and Designer

Maggie Ellenby was educated in Britain and the United States. Degrees in International relations from UCL and Yale were followed by an MA in fine art by Goldsmiths College, London.

Since 1993 she has used the shop window at Rosebury Avenue, for a continuous series of window installations. Designed for a passing audience the work is deliberatly simple, each piece forming an element in a single work of indefinate duration.

Other projects include Light up Queen Street with the City of London and Modus Operandi, Art School at Bloomberg Space, Mothlight at University College Hospital.

It is an informal gathering for local members to meet each other, discuss / exchange ideas and to network.  If you are able to attend please come and join us and chat to the other group members.

Venue is The Royal Festival Hall, main foyer bar area – just look for the CSD sign which I will have close by on the table or seats  We are normally located close to the Bar.

Design and Research: Does it take two to Tango?

Talk by Alec Robertson MA (RCA) FRSA MCSD

Alec will outline his experience of undertaking a pilot questionnaire on the topic 'The impact of academic research on professional design practice'. After the presentation there will be a short discussion followed by refreshments and socialising.

Chartered Designer consultations

The Society is seeking the widest possible views from its members and the design sector to input into the development of the Register of Chartered Designers.

If you would like to attend any of the consultations please contact CSD stating which event you wish to attend.

We will try to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend but numbers will be determined by the venue so please let the Society know asap if you wish to attend.

South West - Plymouth

21st June 2012 – Bermondsey Square Hotel – 1.30pm to 4.00pm

Midlands - Birmingham

NOVEMBER

30th November 2012

37th Annual General Meeting of the                                         Chartered Society of Designers

3pm-4pm

The Society's AGM will be held on 30th November 2012 at IOM3 (Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining), 1 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5DB from 3.00 to 4.00pm followed by refeshments and networking.

DECEMBER

 

The annual ICE & RICS Carol Service will be held once more at St. Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey.

Members and staff of the Society are invited by the President of RICS, Barry Clarke, to this pre-Christmas festive event on Monday 10 December.

The service begins promptly at 17:00 and is followed by a drinks reception at the Institution of Civil Engineers nearby.

Tuesday 18th  December

HM The Queen approves Chartered Designer

Her Majesty The Queen has approved an order giving the Chartered Society of Designers the power to set up and maintain a Register of Chartered Designers and to confer the title on designers.

The news follows over 10 years of development and two years of consultation with the membership and the design sector.
