| Profile description | Dr Iain Macdonald is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Design Innovation at Maynooth University, Ireland; and Vice-President of the National Society for Education in Art & Design. He has over 25 years of previous creative industry experience as a motion graphic designer at the BBC, and as a commercials director in London, before becoming a Design academic with posts at Edinburgh Napier University and London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. He has been published in leading academic design journals and conferences, and in 2025 he co-edited and wrote several chapters for ‘Designing the BBC: a history of motion graphics‘ published by Bloomsbury. He other books include a biography of the Scottish watercolourist ‘William Alister Macdonald – watercolours from Thurso, the Thames and Tahiti’ published by Unicorn. |
