CSD Student Awards 2005
The second annual CSD Student Awards has once again highlighted the quality of design students studying throughout the UK.
Building on the success of the initial awards in 2004, this year saw a 10% increase in entrants and a 20% increase in those being awarded Student Membership of CSD for the duration of their studies.
Altogether the judges awarded membership to 122 students from 33 UK design institutions.
Following the award of membership, the judges deliberated further to identify 27 worthy of commendation.
This year the standard was so high that the judges felt it necessary to award a distinction to 5 students.
The final judging arrived at one winner in each of the 6 major CSD design disciplines.
Each of the winners receives the CSD Student Medal and £1,000.
The student's course will receive a Minerva wall plaque in recognition of their efforts.
The awards will be presented by CSD members at awards in each of the teaching institutions at the start of the next term.
Commenting on the awards, Frank Peters, CSD Chief Executive said
"The awards have proved a great success for both students and courses alike, not just in recognising young design talent but in furthering the relationship between the professional body for designers and academia.
This relationship is crucial to the profession and a major part of CSD's Career Stage Development strategy which provides membership entry points at every stage in a designer's career".
Enquiries were received from overseas courses and CSD will accept international entries for its 2006 awards.
