Budget Report Identifies Good Design Delivery
The 2005 Budget Report, 'Investing for our future: Fairness and opportunity for Britain's hard-working families', was published on 16 March 2005.
One of the areas the Chancellor of the Exchequer focused on was 'Meeting the productivity challenge'.
The Chancellor stressed that "Productivity growth underpins strong economic performance and sustained increases in living standards. The Government's long-term goal is for the UK to achieve a faster rate of productivity growth than its major competitors".
Design was identified as one of the industries that could help the UK meet this challenge and the following announcements were made:
- Measures to increase the contribution of creativity to productivity growth, including a review by George Cox of how SMEs can make better use of design.
- A package of measures to increase the contribution of creativity to productivity growth, including a review, led by George Cox, on how best to use the UK's world class creative industries and universities to support and develop the creativity of SMEs; and action by the RDAs to support the integration of design into corporate strategy and product and market development...
