CSD is a valuable source of information for designers at all levels and it's also a great way to demonstrate your commitment to quality and professional development.
During my time as a member so far, I've not only used some of the many services available, but also recommended it to others, particularly those who are beginning their design careers.
The design world is a very competitive one and securing your first job can be very tough for graduates, but with CSD membership you can have access to useful resources and advice that can make taking your first step on the career ladder a little easier.

Just recently CSD President John Sermon visited Hong Kong to conduct assessments for CSD membership. There was a very good response with more than fifty assessments over two days.
The event highlighted two things. Firstly the design talent that exists in Hong Kong and secondly the importance of China.
In this respect CSD has a great opportunity to assist the development of professional design in China and in the process recruit new members.

The hardest thing we do is sit down with a blank sheet of paper and make marks that become designed 'products'. At that point you are alone. But, free to associate with all manner of reference points. For me, CSD has always been the reference point for professional conduct.
I have often drawn on that reference to defend the professional context for my work, be it to do with finding design work, doing design work, reflecting on design work, or more recently as a design educator facilitating the learning of others.
For me, CSD is about the interests of the design individual, and through the Society, I have been fortunate to learn from other members (who at times, have also been my employers), collaborators and other associated professionals.
