student e-membership

With the ever increasing popularity of design as a career and the numbers studying the subject growing, it can be a daunting prospect as to how you might differentiate yourself in the market place to get that ever important first career break or placement.

Unfortunately, CSD can't guarantee you a job if you become a member, but becoming a CSD Student Member demonstrates to potential employers and clients that you have a commitment to professionalism in your chosen career and that you are serious about developing your skills and experience as a designer.

CSD Student e-Members benefit from an early involvement with their professional body and have a wealth of experience and talent to call upon within the various social networks.

The services and benefits of CSD Student e-Membership are designed to be delivered efficiently and speedily via email, the web and through the membership e-portfolio.

What you can expect as a member:

Recognition:
As a Student member of CSD you may use the words
‘A Student Member of the Chartered Society of Designers’

after your name; on your CV or business card, or whenever you are applying for a job or placement to display your chosen profession.

This indicates that you are a member of your professional body and you should use this professional recognition to market yourself in the industry.

You will receive a letter from the Society confirming your acceptance as a member which may be copied to present together with your CV.

Exposure:
Your own personal portfolio on the Society's website (commences July 2010) where you can display your profile, contact details and case studies.

Every one of our members is a designer in one or more design disciplines, and many own their own design consultancies, often looking to the Society to recruit new design talent. Your portfolio will be accessible, not only to CSD members, but also to visitors to the website.

Professional Development:
Discounts on CSD training modules, workshops and events aimed at professional development.

The Society provides T3 (Top Ten Tips) sheets on topics that student members have identified as important plus others that CSD considers of interest.

Discounts on Portfolio Gym sessions aimed at giving your portfolio a workout with an experienced designer. The Society will try to arrange a Portfolio Gym nearby but if not, holds sessions regularly at its offices in London.

Resources:
Access to the Design Mine, a materials resource provided as part of the Design Pool initiative.

Networking:
The opportunity to get involved by attending any CSD Focus Groups in your area or joining the CSD Student space on Linkedin.

The chance to attend events organised by CSD and in collaboration with CSD partners.

Respect:
The Society realises that today's design students are tomorrows members and as such we respect your requirements. If the Society does not offer what you need then we will try our best to develop it - all you need to do is ask.
