CSD STUDENT MEDAL 2007: PRODUCT
EMBRACE

" My aims and objectives were to meet the Design Brief by designing a product based on the original Egon Riss Penguin Donkey, with a twist.
The design brief was to design a product that had dimensions with 10% of the original.
The brief also specified to incorporate emerging micro technology to allow users to interact with the product.
My response to the above design brief was to design a unit that is intereactive in more than one way, a unit that has more than one function. EMBRACE was the outcome, this design may be used as a pair of low modern tables, or emabraced together in order to create a small multi-media storage unit.
The 2 side panels which act as handles for easy portability are designed to store magazines and mail etc.
These 2 easy to access areas are designed in a way that allows users to casually store multiple items in no specific order.
The central area however is designed to allow users to stack DVD's - Computer Games or Books in an organised fashion.
This area is 220mm in height this allows users to easily add or remove DVD's (190mm - Height).
I also designed EMBRACE to have a flat top so that it may double up as an occasional/coffee table.
In order to meet the brief in terms of emerging technology, I designed EMBRACE to have a built in Mp3 docking station (iEMBRACE), this allows users to further interact.
Users may insert their iPod/Mp3 player subtly converting the unit into their very own jukebox.
Speakers will be built into the sides of the unit in order to give an equal spread of sound".
